The Wonthaggi Croquet Club started May 28th 1993 with the help of the local Arthritis Group. The Club was incorporated in 1994, and the club colour Burgundy was chosen. As of 1994 President: - Helen Keltie V/Pres & Treasurer - June Allen Secretary:- Pauline Thorn
In 1994, the then Borough of Wonthaggi Council donated $3000, towards fencing an area on the No3 Oval, adjacent to the Wonthaggi Heated Swimming Pool (YMCA), they also donated another $1500 towards preparation towards the preparation of the greens.
The club was incorporated in 1994, and the club colour, Burgundy was chosen. In 1998 the club had 14 members. A great deal of money was still needed to raise and prepare a second "A" size green, shelters and a Club house.
Club members in 2001 spent every day watering there much awaited 2nd green until such time it was ready to play on. And with the help of the Wonthaggi Workmen's Club erected 4 shelters to protect players during such time as needed.
As time went on the Club gradually changed from playing Association Croquet (members moving, passing on, and new members wanting the new social form of the game) to now playing Golf Croquet. Our last Association player was the late Mary Sharp.
With the help of the now Bass Coast Shire, Councillors John Deutcher and Neville Goodwin and the tireless effort of the then President Shirley Hamilton the club finally obtained their long awaited Club house.
We welcomed our first male member Mr. Max Williams (Dec) in about 2003 or there abouts'. The number is now 24 out of a total membership of 40.(2018)
